    • This book began as an attempt to map Mohan’s entrepreneurial journey of the last three decades – his passion, purpose, failures and successful evolution as an MSME sector transformation specialist. Mohan is the protagonist of this book, sharing his experiences and answering questions he kept encountering in different forms — in boardrooms, in classrooms, in quiet conversations with people trying to figure out who they were meant to be: what does it actually take to grow?
    • I have had the privilege of growing up with Mohan since our school days and having first-hand knowledge and a ringside seat watching his growth and understanding his journey.
    • A journey that is truly admirable. Not the standard version of growth that fits neatly into a slide deck, but the messier, more honest kind — the kind that asks you to first become, then know, and finally, understand.
    • That is why this book is structured in three parts.
    • The Book of Becoming is about identity — the courage to be fully yourself rather than a diluted version caught between two worlds, as the old saying warns: na gadha bano na ghoda — be neither a donkey nor a horse. It is about the chairs we sit in and whether we let them define us or we define what we do from them.
    • It is about finding an inner compass sturdy enough to hold its direction when everything around us is spinning, and about recognizing that extraordinary performance rarely comes from extraordinary people — it comes from ordinary people who decided to show up extraordinarily.
    • The Book of Knowing widens the lens. It asks us to look through a telescope instead of a microscope — to see context, not just detail. It examines the ordinary shirt button that has outlived generations – small, overlooked, endlessly reliable — as proof that lasting value rarely announces itself loudly. It borrows from the bumblebee, a creature that — by every rule of aerodynamics it was supposed to respect — shouldn’t be able to fly, and does anyway.
    • And it draws from something as ordinary as the indian thali — a plate holding sweet, sour, spicy, and bitter side by side — as a metaphor for the resourcefulness in putting the thali together as well as the balance we’re all quietly trying to plate up in our own lives.
    • The Book of Understanding is where the harder truths live. It looks squarely at failure — not to romanticize it, but to understand both its cost and its hidden success. It proposes that intelligence isn’t singular but sevenfold, and that no single quotient — not IQ, not even EQ — can capture the whole of a person. And it ends, deliberately, with happiness — not as a destination, but as an index we keep checking against, quietly, throughout everything else we’re building.
    • We did not write this book because we have all the answers. We wrote it because we have lived enough of the questions — in our own becoming, our own knowing, our own understanding — to know they are worth sharing.
    • If even one chapter makes you pause, reconsider a chair you’re sitting in, or recalibrate your own compass, this book will have done its work.
    • Read it in order, or read it out of order. Growth rarely happens in a straight line anyway. What's a product or service you'd like to show.

    Testimonials

“A deep reflection by a practitioner entrepreneur over 25 years, with lessons for all managers at any level in an organisation. Read, Assimilate, Practice, Evaluate and Improve. The authors have brought out the importance of the human mind and heart in how to deal with failures in operating a business. Failure is feedback at best, not a Verdict”.

"In Live Life on the E.D.G.E., Mohan Nair and Suresh Karunakaran deliver a masterclass in transformational leadership that bridges the gap between high-level corporate strategy and human-centric values. The book’s core philosophy—moving away from the blind compliance of the 'donkey' and the unsustainable burnout of the 'horse' toward becoming conscious, value-driven leaders—resonates deeply with modern organizational realities.

Through powerful, practical frameworks like the 'Inner Compass' and the 'Button Principle', the authors articulate how true excellence stems from grounded character, absolute accountability, and standardizing operational discipline without losing human empathy. What sets this work apart is its sharp focus on transforming ordinary individuals into extraordinary performers by cultivating a culture of trust, ownership, and psychological safety. Live Life on the E.D.G.E. is an indispensable read for business leaders, entrepreneurs, and young professionals aiming to build resilient, sustainable organizations that withstand the test of time".

"Mohan Nair and Suresh Karunakaran's book is a well written easy to read collection of important good management principles for organizations. Focusing on good human qualities of the individual and how one refines them through thoughtful reflection, and then some of the principles that create an enabling, customer focused culture that helps people perform to their best, builds great organizations.  The concepts are thoughtfully put together and presented simply with a set of questions at the end of each chapter for the reader to think about.

Although the authors have targeted the book to the founders of MSMEs the book is equally relevant for managers and leaders of companies and organizations of any size.  The book should be read by all in leadership positions of companies and other organizations."

My best wishes for a successful book launch on September 27th.  Let me know when the book is out as I would like to get a few copies to circulate to our senior leadership at Forbes Marshall.

What impressed me most is Mohan Nair’s ability to draw profound insights from seemingly ordinary things—the chair, the telescope, the button, the bumblebee and the Indian thali. These become powerful reflections on leadership, purpose, culture and sustainable growth.

The line, “The real challenge is to convert knowledge into behaviour,” particularly resonated with me. So did the reminder that “Behaviour, repeated consistently, becomes culture.” These are not merely ideas; they are truths that every business leader eventually encounters. And the book leaves us with perhaps its most important question: “What did you become? Who became better because of you?”

That question makes this much more than a business book. It makes it a book about building a meaningful life and legacy. This is not a book that simply tells you what to think. It encourages you to pause, reflect and ask better questions. Its wisdom stays with you long after you have finished reading.
